Blue Ridge Music Makers Guild members

Marie Vaughn Gallimore 78, of Willis, VA, died Wednesday, January 31, 2007 following a decade long battle with cancer.  Marie was a musician and entertainer with a lifetime of experience in music and radio broadcasting.  Well known in the local old time and country music circles, Marie had been playing with the Mountain Ivy Band, aka as the "Mabry Mill Band",  prior to the last round of illness.  Involved in broadcasting since 1961, she was one of the founders of Radio Station WGFC in Floyd.  From her first professional performances singing as "Dixie Lee" in the 1950's to playing the doghouse and electric bass with her husband "Farmer Dale" Gallimore and several bands, she was a trooper.

 

Arnold Bruce (Shorty) Slusher  79, of Floyd, VA passed from this life on Sunday, March 2, 2002, at his home.  He was a World War II Veteran, a deacon at Laurel Branch Church of the Brethren,  founder of the Gospel Lights gospel music group, member of the Over the Hill Gang music group, which played in several local churches and nursing homes.  He was a founding member of the Blue Ridge Music Makers Guild.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Phillips Slusher.  Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-laws, Terry and Betty Slusher, Michael and Kay Slusher. 

He was a Master on the guitar, mandolin and fiddle.
