The "Mom & Pop" Stoneman Memorial Instrument Lending Library In order to assure that anyone with the desire to learn to play a musical instrument has access to an instrument to learn on, the Blue Ridge Music Makers Guild, Inc. established the "Mom & Pop" Stoneman Library. With this service, anyone who meets basic qualifications can borrow an instrument for up to two (2) years (renewable at 6-months intervals.) Twice annually, the Guild will advertise introductory sessions for autoharp, fiddle, banjo, guitar, mandolin, or dulcimer. Applications will be available for instruments at the Heritage Shoppe in Woodlawn, VA, The Blueridge Music Center, and any other location deemed appropriate by the Guild. ( A $25.00 deposit will be required for each instrument?) Qualifications: 1. Applicant must live within the Blue Ridge Plateau Area, which includes the counties of Carroll, Floyd, Grayson, Patrick and the City of Galax, Virginia. Proof of address must be shown at the first and each renewal period. (Driver's license, utility bill or tax record.) 2. Applicant must complete three introductory sessions/lessons provided by the Music Makers Guild or give the name of their music teacher. 3. These sessions will provide instruction to the student on basic care and maintenance of the instrument, as well as how to play. The student must demonstrate to the instructor that the student is committed and motivated to learn to play and care for the instrument. 4. The instructor of these sessions (or Guild member) will give final approval for the lending period and any following renewal periods. Applicants may be any age but students age 6 - 18 will be given priority for available instruments. Instruments will not be loaned to students under age 6 without special approval from the Board of the Blue Ridge Music Makers Guild, Inc. Parents or guardians also need to sign for instruments of students under age 18.
