1.  No electric instruments, horns or drums will be allowed on stage.

2. All individuals must perform in their proper categories,  for example the Old Time Banjo must be played Claw-hammer style.

3. All contestants perform Saturday.  Contestants will be permitted up to 5 back-up instruments including themselves..

4.  In case of broken strings or picks, or malfunction of the sound system, any contestant will be permitted to repeat the performance, playing the same tune, without penalty.

5.  Contestants agree that all performances may be recorded without claim.

6.  The management reserves the right to audition any  performer.

7.  Each contestant is limited to 3 ½ minutes  performance time.

 Songwriting

  1. No plagiarism allowed.
  2. The song maybe performed by someone other than the author.
  3. All contestants will be allowed vocal or instrumental back up not to exceed (5) five including the composer.
Each contestant is limited to 3 ½ minutes performance time.

 Most Entertaining

This is a new category which allows more people to compete.  You may sing, dance, play the mandolin, guitar, fiddle or bass and entertain the audience.  Play twin fiddles or sing a duet for example.  The prize money will be the same as the other categories.  Good Luck.

JUDGING STANDARDS

Contestants will be judged by the following standards with each item counting 20% of the score.

  1. TUNING: All instruments shall be tuned accurately and tuned together, but do not necessarily have to be tuned to standard pitch.
  2. TIMING: Individual performers must maintain correct timing.  Particular attention must be given to beginnings and endings.
  3. ACCURACY and AUTHENTICITY:  Allowances will be made for different versions of a tune but all members of the back-up band must play it the same way.  The tune must be clearly recognizable and must be played accurately.
  4. STAGE APPEARANCE and MANNER:  Contestants shall not be tuning or striking notes or chords as they come on stage or while approaching the microphones.  A minimum of time should be required for approaching and positioning the microphones.  Band members should know their positions before coming on stage and should leave in an orderly manner.
  5. PRESENTATION:  The M.C. will make Introduction of the performers; therefore, the only announcement that will be made by the performer is the introduction of the tune that is to be performed.  The music should be played with life and feeling.  It should not appear listless nor should it drag.  The musician should appear to enjoy what he or she is doing.

At times a situation may arise which will require disqualification of a performer.

(A) Not performing in the proper category.

(B)  Violation of any convention rule.

(C) Performing under the obvious influence of alcohol or drugs.

(D) Performing under a fictitious name.

Judges will call for repeat performances of those who tied.

The judges have a responsibility to perform a very hard and often thankless job, but a task that is necessary if the contest is to be a success.  The judges have been hand picked for their ability as Old Time and Bluegrass Musicians.  They are asked to perform this task with a high degree of integrity.  The judges will have the full backing of the contest management and their decision shall be final in all cases.
